A man has died following a motorcycle crash in Cleveland, Ohio, after police said he apparently lost control while attempting a stunt.

The fatal incident happened Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Pearl Road and Cypress Avenue. According to Cleveland police, very preliminary information indicated that the motorcyclist was performing a stunt when he lost control of the motorcycle and struck a utility pole.

The rider was transported to MetroHealth Hospital in critical condition. He later died from injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

The intersection remained closed for several hours while officers investigated the circumstances surrounding the collision. The Cleveland Police Accident Investigation Unit is handling the investigation.

Police initially did not release the victim’s identity and cautioned that the information available about how the crash occurred was preliminary and could change as the investigation progresses.

The victim has since been identified in reports as 29-year-old Anthony Webb. However, the identification should be treated separately from the preliminary account of the crash until officially confirmed by authorities.
